Time to Play.

Today I want to take this opportunity to discuss Purposeless action or as we all know it best PLAY.

As we grow up our relationship with play deteriorates and in many cases becomes something we used to do, if we were lucky, when we were kids.

In our developmental years Play helps to develop physical fitness, coordination and spatial awareness. It also helps in the development of our social and emotional skills. Play, in children teaches humans how to cooperate and be in close vicinity with each other without losing tempers. It helps to develop healthy communication skills.

In ‘Risky’ Play, individuals learn to take risks and experience fear without losing their heads. A lesson that not only could save our lives in a real emergency but at the same time helps through exposure to build a healthy response to fear. When we don't have a healthy response to fear we can suffer from mental health disorders like, Anxiety and depression.

This is a simple reminder, if you haven’t Played in the last 24 hours then its time.

There is a huge amount to gain by knowing ourselves, if you're a fearful person who worries a lot, some adventurous play could be exactly what you need.

Growing up I was fearful of everything, labelled an introvert, sensitive and Timid.

Adventurous play, changed my life.

I now love to engage in play in a very physical way often through adventure sports in nature.

But we can access play anywhere. Here’s a few simple ways you can play more.

Hobbies and sports that have a team or competitive component.

Dance

Music

Board games

Juggling

Slacklining

Drama

surfing

Acting

Swimming

Rock Climbing

yoga

Learning a new skill that doesn’t pay the bills.

The key to integrating play into our lives and ultimately becoming a playful person, is to PRACTICE..

Like anything when we practice we get better at it. This is how we integrate play into our lives, we practice play every day and gradually over time we become playful.

Play creates opportunity for spontaneity, improvisation and creativity at the same time creating connection with others and the environment.

Play takes us out of our heads and into our bodies, we become present, here in this moment NOW.

Play makes us feel better and perform way better, so get outside and play with the kids, pick up a new hobby or play a board game with the family.

Important to note that the best Play instructors are often kids. Let them remind you how to play.

After all Life is too Important to take seriously.
